Pot garden in Notting Hill

This small garden which opens onto a typical Notting Hill communal garden was designed by Luciano Giubbilei. I worked with his studio to draw up the plant palette. The garden sees only afternoon sun and even then is mostly dappled by a large plane tree and a scarlet flowered hawthorn. The solid yew encloses the room and enhances the snug feel. Over time I have encouraged the yew topiary beehives to stand taller as gatekeepers, marking the threshold to and from the communal garden.

The planting is all within simple terracotta pots from a Kent-based pottery. A multi-stem amelanchier sits within a willow woven basket. I have worked with pots of varying sizes to create small clustered displays of ornamental and edible plants.
